Highly Capable Services

Eisenhower is one of two sites in the district that provides services to Highly Capable students in a self-contained classroom setting. In addition to differentiation in the general education classroom, in 2024-2025 students in fifth grade can receive services in a self-contained classroom. The 5th grade self-contained classroom is already at capacity.

If you have questions about services other than the general education setting for HiCap students, please contact the Highly Capable Services office at highlycapableservices@vansd.org.

Kindergarten Jump Start

Kindergarten Jump Start is a free program for incoming kindergarteners that takes place a few weeks before the school year begins. Students participate in a variety of math, literacy and hands-on activities; learn school routines; and become familiar with their new surroundings.

Data shows that students who attend Jump Start are better prepared for kindergarten than children who do not participate. They also gain confidence, leadership skills and enthusiasm for school. Don’t miss this opportunity to give your child a successful transition to kindergarten!

To register your child, please contact the Eisenhower office.

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

Dwight D. Eisenhower is a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports school. PBIS is an approach for supporting students’ academic success by making schools safer and more supportive for everyone. Students spent five minutes rotating to areas of the building and reviewing our school’s RESCUE standards:

  • Respect
  • Effort
  • Safety
  • Cooperation
  • U—YOU
  • Everyone affects everyone!

The Eisenhower staff reinforces and recognizes students who are being safe, respectful and responsible at school. Students are able to earn “Eagle coins” by modeling RESCUE standards. Together, they can use their Eagle coins to work toward earning a Spirit Day of their choice (Crazy Hat Day, Pajama Day, Color Wars Day, etc.).
